Raheim and Carla Murray Obituary, Cause of Death - Morganton Couple Allegedly Killed Over $75,000 Inheritance
MORGANTON, N.C. — A Morganton couple, Raheim Murray, 31, and Carla Murray, 39, were allegedly killed inside their home in a case investigators say was motivated by a $75,000 inheritance.
According to court documents and search warrants reported by local media, Jamar Propst and Tosha Lewis are accused of killing the couple while they slept. Both suspects face first-degree murder charges.
Couple Allegedly Killed in Their Sleep
Investigators say Lewis knew the Murrays and had stayed at their home on the night of the killings. According to court documents, she allegedly unlocked the back door, allowing Propst to enter the residence.
Propst is accused of shooting Raheim and Carla while they were asleep.
Authorities later discovered the couple's remains buried along a nature trail at Benfield Park near Glen Alpine, after an employee reportedly found two shovels partially covered by debris.
$75,000 Inheritance Allegedly Motivated Killings
Search warrants filed in Burke County indicate investigators believe the killings were connected to a $75,000 inheritance that Carla had recently received.
People who knew the couple told investigators that Carla had reportedly discussed receiving a substantial inheritance before her death.
The case took an even more disturbing turn after investigators alleged that the suspects moved into the victims' home with their children following the killings.
According to court documents, Propst allegedly took possession of the victims' phones and used their faces to bypass facial-recognition security. Investigators say the suspects subsequently transferred approximately $19,000 from Murray's Cash App account.
Suspects Charged With Murder
Jamar Propst and Tosha Lewis have both been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of conspiracy, according to reports.
Authorities say Propst was also out on bond in connection with another high-profile murder case in Catawba County when the Murrays were allegedly killed.
